One of the essential elements in the plan of salvation is believing in Jesus Christ.  Belief is the doorway to God.  Belief and faith are essential steps into the Christian faith.
Romans 10:9-10 = "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

Colossians 1:21 = "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe."

Galatians 3:22 = "But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe."

Hebrews 11:6 = "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."

1 Peter 1:8-9 = "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."

1 John 3:23 = "And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us."
